A Canceled Date

In March's chill, the day weeps for warmth,
As from the street, the home's embrace calls me forth,
Painting the glass with a tender facade,
The panorama of morning in the heart of the north.

And in the dull frame of a window ajar,
Melting like watercolours, the grey hues entwine,
The sleepy houses of cold spring streets lie far,
Draped in the fog of a day so malign.

I'll postpone our meeting; the hour feels dim,
And on a whim, an old tome I shall seek,
Whilst he, left to linger alone in the brim,
Soaks in the rain, in the March's cold leak.

In this quiet void, where warmth has it's place,
Desire recedes, a fading refrain,
The heart seeks retreat, a soft, tender space,
Where silence can cradle and soothe all the pain.

In solitude's arms, let the world fall away,
For in stillness, I find both comfort and peace,
As echoes of longing softly sway,
And the heart learns to heal, to relinquish, release.
