Cardiac Tamponade

A cycle of poems «Trauma Life Support»

The heart, a pump, a tireless beat,
Keeps life's rhythm, sweet and neat.
But pressure builds, a silent tide,
Fluid trapped, nowhere to hide.

Cardiac tamponade, a cruel embrace,
The chambers squeezed, no time or space.
The heart's own blood, a foe it seems,
A muffled beat, a fading gleam.

The veins distend, a telltale sign,
The pulse grows weak, the breath decline.
The jugulars bulge, a frantic plea,
For intervention, swift and free.

Cardiac tamponade, a cruel embrace,
The chambers squeezed, no time or space.
The heart's own blood, a foe it seems,
A muffled beat, a fading gleam.

The doctor's touch, a steady hand,
A needle's point, a lifeline planned.
The fluid drains, a hope renewed,
The heart's rebirth, a life imbued.

Cardiac tamponade, a cruel embrace,
The chambers squeezed, no time or space.
But hope remains, a fighting chance,
To mend the heart, and take a dance.

The rhythm finds its steady pace,
A second chance, a healing grace.
Cardiac tamponade, a fearsome fight,
But life prevails, with all its might.
