Forget

Did you know that tomorrow would bring morning?
Did you know that tomorrow would bring day?
Did you know there would be no more empty
Shadowed hollows in my soul—come what may?

And I’ll never forget how you cried out, yet,
How you woke with the dawn and smiled back.
But life turns in circles:
One careless step—and then you go.
And instead of your hand in mine,
I read a brief inscription carved below.

No need for tears, no need for mourning—
I’ll walk outside to the balcony,
Spread my arms and lean my body
To the wind, so wild and free.
Then I’ll call the name of the person
Who gave a piece of his heart to me.

No need for tears, no need for mourning—
I’ll go again to that platform, worn,
Sit once more on the old wood bench,
And count the minutes as before,
The ones I waited for you—silent, forlorn.

Rush, cities and countries;
Rush, mountains and great white clouds above—
But never again shall I behold
The one who filled my heart with love.

I’ll walk every road,
I’ll swim every river
We once dreamed together of braving,
Only to meet another woman at last
And forget the love we were saving.
