Notes:
Verse 1 - "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" speaks of the creation of the UNIVERSE (there's no such word in ancient Hebrew, so a 1st century Jew would say "The heavens and the Earth")
Verse 2 - "Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters" - dramatically narrows down the scope to a our planet which will be prepared for life!
