Jesus our LORD rebuked Thomas not for asking for evidence, but for asking way too much evidence and not trusting the very sufficient testimony of the Apostles. So blessed are those who do not demand Jesus to appear to every generation in everyone's bedroom, but do trust the evidence we are already given and should reasonably trust!!
Thus, we realise evidence is an important component of our faith, and our LORD points to it in the passage with Thomas. Evidence may not be the way we know Christianity is true, but it's a direct way for sharing why we think it's true, because it's logic, objectivity and facts that are common to everyone of us - and there are as many means we spiritually realise the truth of Christianity as there are individuals!
