Buddhist Parable
A tale of five friends, with different sentiments.
Some grateful, some ungrateful, some filled with greed,
And a lesson to be learned, for all to see.
In a forest, lived five friends, each with their own tale,
The Quail, the Crow, the Fly, the Frog, and the Elephants, so pale.
They all lived together, in peace and in love,
And shared what they had, from the heavens above.
One day, a great famine, struck the land,
And food became scarce, with nothing left to hand.
But the Elephant, he remembered a place,
Where food was abundant, in a far-off space.
So he took the others, with him on the journey,
And showed them the way, with love and with mercy.
The Quail, the Crow, the Fly, and the Frog, they saw,
That the Elephant had saved them, from the famine's raw.
But the Crow, he was ungrateful, and took what he could,
Without a single thought, for the Elephant's good.
The Fly, he too was ungrateful, and took what he pleased,
Without a single word, for the Elephant's needs.
But the Quail, the Frog, and the Elephant, they all were kind,
And showed gratitude, for the love they'd find.
They shared the food, and lived in peace,
For they knew that gratitude, is what would never cease.
So let us learn, from the Quail, the Crow, the Fly, the Frog, and the Elephants,
That gratitude, is a choice, that we can take in hand.
For in the end, it's the love we give,
That makes us truly, truly live.
