Olga was wandering alone in the lap of nature

Olga was wandering alone in the lap of nature,
The nanny goats were bleating in unison.
But she did not listen to them for long,
For in the distance, she saw a power station.

The bleating of the nanny goats faded away.
The birch and alder trees were bare.
The hum of the turbines drowned everything
And the trees might not have been there.

The building rose up with pride and energy
And the din was quite deafening.
But the knowledge that this was the result
Of Communism was very, very comforting.

She was seized with joy and tranquility,
Knowing that in the USSR, every year, they
Produce ever more cement, iron and steel,
Oil, gas and coal and electrical energy.

Now, Olga still wanders alone in the lap of nature,
However, the smell of smoke fills the forest
And Olga is continuously repeating, though breathless:
“Long live Communism and the CPSU!
Long live Progress!”
