es hinter den Ohren haben, es dick hinter den Ohren haben, es kn;ppeldick hinter den Ohren haben
Etymology
Literally, "to have it fist-thick behind the ears". The idiom is rooted in the old popular belief that waggishness and trickiness were little demons that sat behind people’s ears and were recognizable by thick bumps or lumps.[1] Compare the German idiomatic expressions den Schalk im Nacken haben, jemandem sitzt der Schalk im Nacken, jemandem sitzt der Schalk hinter den Ohren.

es faustdick hinter den Ohren haben (irregular, third-person singular present hat es faustdick hinter den Ohren, past tense hatte es faustdick hinter den Ohren, past participle es faustdick hinter den Ohren gehabt, past subjunctive h;tte es faustdick hinter den Ohren, auxiliary haben)

(colloquial, idiomatic) to be a crafty, sly devil/fox, to be a sly dog, to be sly as a fox (be crafty, sly, or occasionally impish and punchy in spite of one’s harmless, innocent, naive appearance) (of people; more rarely, of animals)
Synonym: mit allen Wassern gewaschen sein
(colloquial, idiomatic, figuratively) not to be as harmless, innocent, naive as it may seem at first glance; not to be underestimated (of things and abstract notions)
Synonyms: es in sich haben, nicht ohne sein
