Wait for me and I ll come home

Wait for me and I’ll come home,
Only, truly wait:
Wait when autumn sorrows roam
With a rainy gait;
Wait, when snows fall and drift,
Wait in blazing sun,
Wait, when others buried swift –
To the grave assigned.
Wait if silence grows dire,
Letters lose their way,
Wait if others grow tired –
All who could not wait.

Wait for me and I’ll come home,
Shun the ones who bet,
Who are sure: it’s set in stone –
Best now to forget.
Let my mother, son decide:
I exist no more,
Let my friends resign and sigh,
By the warm fire hoard,
Let them sip on bitter wine
For my soul’s true bliss,
Let no toast or drop this while
Touch your waiting lips.

Wait for me and I’ll come home –
Spiting many deaths,
“Luck” will say those, who disowned
In a single breath…
They will never understand:
Waiting, loving – you
Saved me from that fatal dance,
Where the bullets flew,
Only you and I will know
How I survived:
You could wait through fire and snow
Like none else alive.
