Hockey Is No Coward s Game

The music rings, they’re in the rink, attacking boldly;
You give that pass – precise and quick, you swing away!
If they are on the ice, then victory will follow,
The Magic Five and their goalie save the day.

They battle fiercely and they set the ice on fire,
Courageous flare is their motto and their name,
Believe it! – Hockey is for men of steel desire,
Hockey is no coward’s game!
Hockey is no coward’s game!

And let them light the lamp, the pulsing lamp of winning,
They pass and shoot – the five as one! They score away;
They can defend and send the rivals off and spinning,
The Magic Five and their goalie save the day.

Refrain

The future holds a million games in blazing style,
We’ll always cherish their fearless winning ways
And how they won us games and cups and gold for miles,
The Magic Five and their goalie save the day!

Refrain

*Hockey Is No Coward’s Game is a 1968 Russian song. The  Magic Five” (literally called The Magnificent Five in Russian and known as the Big Red Machine or the Russian Five in English) was a Soviet hockey team in the 80s, which dominated hockey. Most likely, it is the team that was named after the song, as the song was written much earlier. For hockey fans, these five were: Slava Fetisov, Alexei Kasatonov, Vladimir Krutov, Igor Larionov and Sergei Makarov.
