A. H. Adamson - a tribute

His touch was material,
His approach was second to none
When he turned to classical
Ideas, some fresh
And some 'overdone'.

His lightness was unemotional
But his mastery was so high
That people still admire his works
And sigh.

While they stay tuned
To the past,
Electric vehicles pass by
And we see
The abstract above the concrete
And purity of thoughts
Among the spots and dots
Of new design.

NB (some trivia about the architect)

* Amandus Heinrich Adamson was an architect whose input into the European aesthetic development was immensely significant.

Despite numerous obstacles, not only did he reveal numerous novel strategies and methods of design and architecture, but also he created several major works by the beginning of the 20th century.

Adamson's works were bright, courageous and gracious, and they were large-scale and enough to be noticed and approved by several governments.

Having embedded the air of Classicism into Pre-modern and early Modern shapes, this emblematic city-builder received a large critical acclaim and upleveled his career dramatically.

From Classicism with its mythological accuracy and harmonious shapes he took its predictability and symmetry, then he melded it with a pompous and dramatic Baroque influence and a gracious,  mildly emotional, experimental plasticity of Modernism.

In Poltava one of his works could be seen, as well as in Saint-Petersburg and Pyartu.
