My best pride. На английском

There were good times when at full gallop
I spurred my life  around all through,
The speed and strength I could develop
Were  equal to the lot I drew.

I paved my own way with care -
Not assiduity is meant,
Just ‘picking-things-up-quickly’ gear -
To me genetically lent.

I was a warrior and a tutor,
A senior level diplomat,
Egg-headed always -  no shooter,
And none of those I would regret.

But all the good  some day expires,
And running out of demand
Has turned to ashes all my fires -
A hard experience to withstand!

So now I’m far from being a  hero,
A tired vet as one may put,
Ambitious claims being next to zero,
The horseback come now left on foot.

If for romance I’m apt or neither
For my admirers to decide,
I’m not ‘reality disguiser:
My age and wounds  are my best pride!
