The Rubber Woman

Walking through the life like up the ladder
You astonished people, you looked nice.
Offering the woman made of rubber
As The Dream for them to realize. 

You made people trust the smile of rubber,
They believed the empty rubber words.
Anyway mistakes and bills and failures
Always were explained to waiting world.

How often gathering to crowds
The people tore to shreds
The Rubber Woman when they found,
That it was idol wrong for them.
But this is it, oh, this is it,
All mended and with patches in,
The Rubber Woman comes to life
It’s like the Moon in gloomy sky.

How could a toad made of  rubber,
Being  so harmless when it’s little,
Get the size of dirigible and pumped
For to rise a picture of the Chief?

Being not too strong to carry banner
It fell down right on crying people.
But the victims of that awful fire
Cursed the cruel fate and never him.

Ты шагал по жизни, как по трапу,
У всего народа на виду.
И всю жизнь Резиновую Бабу
Выдавал за Светлую Мечту!

Верили резиновой улыбке,
Верили резиновым словам,
Впрочем, все просчеты и ошибки
Аккуратно разъяснялись нам.

Сколько раз была растерзана
Веселою толпой
Резиновая Женщина -
Кумир вчерашний твой!
И вот она, и вот она -
Залатана, заштопана -
Резиновая Женщина
Опять восходит как луна!

Как могла резиновая жаба,
В общем безобидная на вид,
Вздуться до размеров дирижабля,
Лик Вождя поднявшего в зенит!

Чтоб потом под тяжестью портрета
Рухнуть на орущую толпу!
Но и в том огне сгорали жертвы,
Ни его кляня, а лишь судьбу!

Сколько раз была растерзана

Резиновая Женщина -
Кумир вчерашний твой!
И вот она, и вот она -
Залатана, заштопана -
Резиновая женщина
Опять восходит как луна!
