From  O. Mandelstam

For Schubert in the stream, and Mozart in the winged turmoil,
And Goethe, whistling on a winding way,
And Hamlet, whose steps are but intelligent and restless toil,
They knew the rhythm of the mob and trusted the mob's sway.
Could whisper have been born before the lips,
And no trees begot the leaves of the landscape
And those whom we offer our experience' tips.
Before experience aquired their shape.
