lullaby 01
we’ve been trapped for thirty years
bathed at night in rain and sulphur
‘till this crimson ceiling clears
come, come children, at the sundown
when this stream devours the sun
don’t look down, just keep on walking
tip-toe, tip-toe one by one
come, come children, don’t tell mother
she will never find you here
in stone fishtanks stained in eld
further, further, you’re so near
come, come children, grown impatient
in between the light and black
closer, closer, cross the bridge and
you will not be coming back
come, come children, hear our voices
follow long-forgotten tracks
fallen trees and stiffened corpses
and weeds sprouting from their backs
come, come children, withered letters
in corroding moonlight beams
do you see them? can you read them?
on the pebbles in these streams?
come, come children, the faint heartbeat
of the earth quivers the sand
the cold kiss of the rough boot soles
still breathes sorely in this land
come, come children, angels drifting
on their evangelic route
swipe their white robes o’er our heads
but refuse to let us out
come, come children, how we suffer!
every day under this sky
eats our insides like a maggot
only you can hear us cry
come, come children, we’ll be waiting
did our voices scare you so?
we know you’ll come sooner or later
but oh it pains to watch you go
