Turn your sail

Inspired by a sermon by Steve Hand in St.Paul Mission church (Birkenhead)

So many coasts look to us appealing,
when we are young and much of wisdom lack,
not by the Truth - moved by a fleeting feeling,
which throws deepest hopes off the track.

Whatever is direction of your thoughts,
life makes us drift from happiness away
and, distancing by so many knots,
you can forget your goal and your way.

If you by other goals are attracted,
the open sea is welcoming at first...
Oh be alert, and don’t be distracted, -
your soul can be in a fog immersed!

You can be lost, accosted by temptations,
when storms are raging in the midst of night,
oh let the Spirit be your navigation,
the compass that will in the darkness shine.

Relationships, jobs, health can cause us problems,
can drown us, they can overwhelm.
The boat sinks, if we are seeking solace
in nothing more but in the carnal realm.

When your beliefs severely are tested,
in humbleness, rejecting human pride,
if Jesus in your life is manifested,
with underwater rocks you won’t collide.

Expressing faith,  rejoicing in salvation,
forget the past, and always look ahead,
and then from sin you’ll find liberation,-
love flourishes, if we for self are dead.

Keep focus on the Christ and turn your sail
towards the land invisible and great,
where hopes can’t betray and love can’t fail,
where life eternal is to fascinate.

Renewing strength in His enormous power,
trust plans God has for you will then exceed
your expectations, when the Lord will shower
with many blessings, making you succeed.
