The Riddle

I know how to count, I know how to teach:
I count my blessings and guide but don’t preach.
I learned to greet sunshine with petals and blooms
And keep wine around - sing blues to the moon.
With calendar squares I play “tic tac toe”,
Intentions as arrows fight time as my foe.

But into the night, I miss you and miss us.
The more I move forward - I long for the past.
The more I embrace - I long to belong.
The louder the music - the more I am alone.

I carry this riddle to break or explain.
By waiting to ask, exchange shame with blame.
Feel light as a feather and seeking to hide,
Act strong as a mule when step in the light.
To press and to fix all surrounding souls,
Neglecting to notice who is in control.

But even in daytime, I miss you and us.
The more I move forward - I long for the past.
I made all right moves but ended up wrong.
Take drape off that mirror - I want to go home.
