Why did I love Lilith

“God, answer me!
Why did I love Lilith?
Her magic look –
now light, then darkness.
And now I seem to lose my mind again
When traded immortality for love.

I beg you! Give me just a sign.
I'm ready now to enter other spheres,
Other realities, to see
their atmosphere.
To find you at the edge of immortality
that’s empty".

But on the threshold of the universe
At once a random silhouette appeared.
He said, “I am the Holy Spirit.
I came for you.
You see, you walk the path of shadow.
First, come back to the light.
Forget Lilith – she is a fallen
angel
The light that faded
in her weary eyes
Won’t bring you anything.
No love, no sadness.
In bitterness of torments you’ll be drowned.
Her hellish kiss will burn you
to the ground."

“I don't need morality from you.
I’m free to make my own choice
true.
And even though I'm on the way to oblivion.
I will be with her, if only for a moment.
I hear her gentle voice.
How arrogantly she is singing.
My name is whispering again.
I'm coming up to you, Lilith."

The poem was created as a monologue of the main character of the opera - the fictional character Samael, being hopelessly in love with the demon Lilith. Rejecting God, he soon realizes that he is just a tool is in the hand of insidious Lilith. After parting with her, he stays alone: without God and without love.
