the cheetah

They like to stress in books and blogs
That cats are cats and dogs are dogs.
But let me prove them wrong - I couldn’t be keener:
I’m proud to say that I’m an in-betweener.

Some people think that I’m a cat
But I can sway them, just like that:
You see my claws? No fight, I’m not a bully.
Just showing you I can’t retract them fully.

If you’re a cat, your claws come out
And go back in, without a doubt.
On top of that, they sure are sharp and stunning.
But mine are blunt and excellent for running.

I’m built just like a greyhound is:
My legs are long, and thanks to this
I’m supersonic. Bragging? Not a glimmer.
But if we race, your chances are much slimmer.

Sometimes I growl, sometimes I purr.
It would be boring if I were
A creature ticking just one box
So let’s agree: the cheetah rocks.
Yes, cats are graceful, dogs are fun.
A bit of each – and you have won
The highest praise. In my defense:
It’s not like sitting on the fence.
I’ve got the best of both worlds
So let me say in simple words:
You’re stronger, faster, leaner
If you’re an in-betweener.
Determined, powerful and sleek,
You’re in your own special league.
You’re guaranteed to be unique
If you’re an in-betweener.
