misconceptions

It’s true that dogs receive a mixed reception,
And lots of us will not be asked to stay.
Time to debunk some common misconceptions
So every single dog could have its day.

When someone says, It’s a complete dog’s dinner,
They seem to have no common sense to see
That every single dinner is a winner,
And we are grateful, just like you should be.

Same goes for breakfast, and it’s not surprising:
Rejecting food is arrogant and lame.
But homework is far from appetizing,
So it's absurd for us to get the blame.

This kind of silly language hurts our feelings
(“Dog in the manger” does a hundredfold).
And “going to the dogs” should sound appealing,
Dream destination for the young and old.

A dog that has two tails is not excited:
It’s a disaster, having more than one.
A tail that wags its dog has not been sighted
And, therefore, it can’t be true - case won.

“Like cats and dogs” has been a curse for ages,
Encouraging hostility in pets,
And “raining cats and dogs” is plain outrageous,
As inconceivable as an expression gets.

Dogs being hot and barking dogs not biting,
Sick as a dog, dog tired, all that stuff.
Not every dog’s existence is exciting,
And hurtful language makes it extra tough.

Let’s do away with these misleading phrases
That put the blameless pooches in the dock.
Call off the dogs and switch to heaping praises
On everyone and (first of all) their dog.
