Февраль. Достать чернил и плакать!
Писать о феврале навзрыд,
Пока грохочущая слякоть
Весною черною горит.

Достать пролетку. За шесть гривен,
Чрез благовест, чрез клик колес,
Перенестись туда, где ливень
Еще шумней чернил и слез.

Где, как обугленные груши,
С деревьев тысячи грачей
Сорвутся в лужи и обрушат
Сухую грусть на дно очей.

Под ней проталины чернеют,
И ветер криками изрыт,
И чем случайней, тем вернее
Слагаются стихи навзрыд.

Take ink and pen and, sobbing,
Jot down some notes of February!
While roaring slush is all aflame,
Awaiting coming of the spring.

Go get a carriage for six pennies,
Through peal and through the screeching wheels,
Move to where showers are more strident
Than all your ink and all your tears.

And where, akin to charred pears,
Thousands of rooks break off from trees
And land in puddles, bringing down
The dusty sorrow in your eyes.

The blackening of thawed snow patches,
Wind punctured with the shouts and screams,
And the more random, the more faithful
Turn out the poems penned in tears.
