Deadly Love Story
‘Twas not far from New Mexico
The bartender gave me a cracked dirty mug
Then cursed me and spat on the floor
The place was a’crowded - rascals and thugs
All drunk and their guns on their hips
Then the tavern got frozen - she stood at the door
Then slow and firm she walked in
- - -
Her face was a’darker than a black stormy cloud
Her hair swingling round her head
She paced thru the crowd - the grace of a swan
No louder than a wild mountain cat
I was stunned and a’crushed - t’was love at first sight
Her eyes I would never forget
Then she gave me a glance ‘n I decided at once
Together we’d be till we’re dead
- - -
I raced thru the darkness, I rode thru the night
I seeked her from east to the west
I scared thousands of people and many have died
But she always was one step ahead
We met in some strange place all ravaged and ruined
Again stood I stone-still and blind
Then I opened my eyes and the black hole I saw -
A barrel of her old rusty gun
- - -
Well, I sat at some rathole drinking my beer
‘Twas not far from New Mexico
The bartender gave me a cracked dirty mug
Then cursed me and spat on the floor
It was here we once met, I remember the day
And the chase that was longer than life
Now I sit here and think if Death was your name
What happens if you have to die?..
