Tato the Brave Potato

Various old stories we knew,
But Potato Tato's new.
No more wait, just take a seat,
I shall tell you what he did.

Plates in the kitchen were standing in a bunch -
A cook was cutting salad for lunch,
Massive white pot was standing aside,
Potatoes and radish waiting inside.

A tiny fresh carrot was in the pot too,
Three plump tomatoes, round purple beetroot.
A cucumber, pepper, freshly picked dill
With onions were lying perfectly still.

The cook is about to cut what he brought,
He'll take every vegetable from the pot.
Radish will be chopped, potatoes peeled up,
Everything will be put in a bowl to mix up.

When everything is finally sliced,
Mixed up with oil and carefully spiced,
Salted enough to have a yummy taste -
On the dining table it will be placed.

Washed up and fresh they were patiently waiting,
Though boredom became a little frustrating.
Guests were all ready to eat
But the cook only finished roasting the meat.

Potato Tato decided to speak
“Shall we all just stay here and be very weak?
Shall we just wait for the fools
To cut us with the kitchen tools?"

Sir Cucumber answered: “Oh well,
This will not help, I can tell.
They let us grow in the shade of their hut
And then in the salad we are to be cut.“

“No way! I'm not in the mood
To become somebody's food,
And while the cook is cooking meat
I think I'll sneakily retreat”

Tato quickly looked to the right -
The cook was already sharpening knives.
Two little chefs in funny white hats
Were standing aside and feeding the cats.

They got up early, just like the cook
And by the evening very tired they looked.
Poor little fellas yawned all the time
But singing together made them feel fine.

Tato jumped out of the pot,
Trying his best not to be caught.
Quickly found himself on the ground,
And rolled past the cats lying around.

Cucumber jumped after him too.
But as he flew, bumped a big spoon.
The cooks turned their heads, attracted by sound
And ran after the greens with their eyebrows frowned.

They ran downstairs and straight outside,
Chasing escapers with ladles, they cried.
Angrily shouting, hopelessly whistling
But Tato and Cucumber were in the distance.

They saw a garden then, as they ran.
Afraid to look back, they came up with a plan,
Jumped in the bushes that no one could find
And hid there for a very long time.

The next morning they cheerfully walked,
Singing a funny bravery song,
But the evening weakened their smiles
After walking so many miles.

Suddenly our friends saw a big wall,
The stairs beside it looked rather tall.
Tato and Cucumber quickly climbed to the top,
The desire for deep sleep made them choose to stop.

They woke up in a dusty shed,
Hearing a rooster above their heads,
They looked down and saw a feast -
At the table seven pigs.

The shed seemed like a castle now,
Looking big and rich somehow.
Geese were running dressed as waiters,
Serving greens to piglets-gapers.

Cooks are working all over the place -
Rooster the chef is leading the race.
Boiling, steaming, cutting and baking,
Hens do not want to keep the guests waiting.

Cucumber and Tato got down from their beds
And quickly rushed to hide their heads,
Barely managed to properly hide -
Two white angry geese at once flew inside.

Tato sneakily looked from the corner,
-“Well, here comes another border!
Escaping from cooks to save our lives,
We face hungry pigs holding sharp knives."

We need to quietly go past the wall
So that they simply don't see us at all,
Then go downstairs into the cellar,
We'll sneak from the Rooster and find shelter.

So they rolled down and on their way
Noticed a carrot, who was locked away.
Beautiful, orange, fresh and quite thin,
She bitterly cried, small like a pin.

Sir Cucumber shouted "Time to escape!"
“No! Let me save Carrot and then run away!”
Hens still are not here to take her,
She won't get to the pigs' waiter.

Tato hit the wall too hard,
But still, Carrot was saved by her new guard.
Trembling, cold and terrified
Their hands were tightly intertwined.

Suddenly hens surrounded the greens,
The Rooster came too, leading the team.
Opened the doors and started to peck,
Tato was bravely fighting them back.

Cucumber grabbed a big water hose,
Turned on the tap near his toes,
Directed the hose right to the hens
And saved the lives of his good friends.

Tato shouted “Run! Let's go! Quick!
Rooster is coming here with Pigs!"
Lifted the Carrot as if she's a feather -
The greens ran away to the forest together.

Cucumber too was keeping the pace,
White from the salt all over his face,
Crying for help, the poor blind thing was full of fear
And in the long grass Tato saw him disappear.

Tato jumped right after him
And saw a city deep underneath.
Greens from all fields were hiding in there,
Living in fear and hopeless despair.

Terrible stories were going around -
Poor vegetables lived making no sound.
Cabbage and Beet, their sisters and brothers
Were telling rumours interrupting each other.

Tato gathered all greens in the morning -
Suggested they defeat their enemy, warning,
That everyone has to unite for the win
And join Cucumber, Carrot and him.

A massive army was assembled,
With Tato riding a mouse in a saddle.
They bravely moved towards the shed,
Destroying everything lying ahead.

Seeing the army – hens ran away,
The geese who were waiters felt like prey,
Pigs were scared, intimidated,
The shed in a moment was devastated.

The Rooster was running around the place,
Wanting to fly, wings flapping in grace
But he was caught and worthily punished,
For hurting the vegetables he was then banished.

The old wooden shed was then covered with leaves
And burnt away, what a relief!
Let the fire shine so bright!
No more feasts here will we find!

Veggies all returned to the field,
No more need to go underneath.
Geese, pigs and roosters scare no more -
Sun, rain and freedom are here evermore.

Tato became the bravest of knights,
All came to him to ask for advice
But the modest hero did not like fame -
Courageous great deeds shouldn't be claimed.

Hero Potato then left alone,
Cucumber never found him at all.
Tato was walking the road till the dark -
He grew so tired after going very far!

An empty hole in a large field he found -
Tato climbed in and stayed in the ground.
Sleeping at last, he never woke up,
A tiny green leaf the next morning popped up.

It hailed, it rained, the sun shined so bright,
Giving the leaf so much of its light.
In autumn a bush grew up from that leaf -
Little Potatoes showed underneath.

Handsome and brave the young Tatoes looked,
Just like their father, they were a group
Of young little soldiers, and all of them could
Protect the others and make the world good.

Potato Tato was very brave,
But without friends he'd never escape.
So this is where my story ends,
Thank you for listening, my dear friends.
