Это взгорье... Этот мир просторный,
Где гуляют ветры, шелестя,
Это небо... Этот край, который
Не узнать мне двадцать лет спустя.

Как случилось, как же это вышло —
Вместо игр и песен — тишина.
Всё, что было здесь, ушло неслышно,
Лишь всё та же надо мной луна...

Здесь деревья, кажется, другие,
А не те, с которыми я рос.
И дворы здесь новые, глухие —
Ни в одном не лает больше пёс.

Здесь давно, покончивши со старой,
Наступила новая пора...
Ни одна возлюбленная пара
Не гуляет больше до утра.

This hill… This pretty spacious world,
Where winds are walking with a sough,
This sky… My country will remold,
Twenty years later it’s my slough.

What is it and how did it happen
That no one sings or starts to play a game?
Everything existing here had a stand-in,
Over me the Moon is still the same.

All the trees for me are now strangers,
Not the ones they used to be before,
All its yards are going through the changes,
There a dog will never bark once more.

Long ago, after an unequal struggle
The New Time’s turn has come to reign,
No one beauteous loving couple
Will never walk at night again.
