60. Conscience
Telling you that you weren’t right
And compelling you to think
Of those things you want to blink at;
When it does not let you sleep,
Reminding you of where you tripped up,
When it creeps into your dreams
And does not want to take wings,
Don’t you comprehend: what’s it,
Forcing your heart to a quicker beat?
It’s your conscience, my dear friend.
Did you know it? Yes, you did.
When it turns your life to nightmare,
And you feel that you can’t bear it,
When it frankly represents
In the unfavorable light
All your deeds, you understand
That you were not really right.
Don’t you know where you went wrong,
How you’ll set right all mistakes?
If you do, don’t delay long,
Do it for your conscience’s sake.
