A Sense of Wonder

In his rocking chair, grandpa is snoring –
Blissfully ignoring
Noise from the tele (that’s always on).
His mind quite opaque
To the "BREAKING NEWS! IN THE NEARBY LAKE..."


His son's more pragmatic; he is in his forties –
And one of his not too numerous fortes
Is acting bemused as he scans 'Daily News',
Skimming the headlines, he mumbles half-awake – 
"KILLER-PIRANHAS FOUND IN A NEARBY LAKE?"


Across the street in a different house,
Disheveled teenager is trying to browse
Sites he is definitely too young for.
He sees the piranha bit – thinks it's probably fake.
"Dad, can we go SWIM IN THAT NEARBY LAKE?"


His younger brother, still just a toddler –
Is finishing his breakfast, dissecting a cobbler.
All of a sudden he sits up, quite spellbound –
His mother just told him something truly profound.
"Come on, sweetie, finish milk and your cake.
"And right after this we'll go SIT BY A LAKE".
