Jester
He bows sarcastically and begins his sport.
He apes the king and pantomimes a lord,
He taunts the soldiers with a makeshift sword.
No one escapes his ridicule and yet,
Loved and esteemed is witty jester's craft.
His jokes – whether garish or profound –
The only refuge where honesty is found.
His double entendres expose and attack
False prophets claiming up is down, white is black.
The jester's done – he bows and leaves the stage –
His jokes live on – through every day and age.
