My portrait

I know that my brethren will not understand
 The way of my soul that I set out.
 I know what's more important to them here
 And passport control, customs seal,

 Certificates... Alas, how many of them:
 Marriage, divorce, inheritance...
 They don't care what my verse says,
 What did I suddenly forget to breathe when I was a child!

 But my portrait is not a face,
 Not how I feel about co-religionists;
 And for that matter, after all,
 My true portrait is only my heart!

 And the heart doesn't need any passports,
 No certificate, no customs, no border;
 And if there is love in it and a dream -
 Enough to keep beating!
