Cotton Fields

I went off to the countryside for it has so much charm
I had a dream of working on some lovely local farm
They said 'Go on the cotton fields, it will do you no harm'

“Cotton fields, they wait for you!
Don’t you want to see them, too? don’t you want to see them too?”

We have to work on the plantation fourteen hours straight
Start early in the morning, finish in the evening late
Well, if we are to die here, then it must be our fate

“Cotton fields can give you home!
You will never be alone, you will never be alone”

I have old blisters on my hands that still refuse to heal
My back has been exposed so much, the skin begins to peel
And pain now seems to be the only thing that's left to feel

“Cotton fields lie in the Sun!
Working here’s joy and fun, working here’s joy and fun”

They told me that my wage’s about eleven bucks a day
I asked my planter once when I could see them anyway
He gave a cunning look: 'Excuse me, what did you just say?'

“Cotton fields are in your heart!
With them you will never part, with them you will never part”

There’s nothing I can do with it, I think nobody can
I know that even if I die with cotton in my hand
They’ll throw my body to the pigs and find another man

“Cotton fields invite you in!
Bring you friends and all your kin, bring your friends and all your kin”
