Godless hearts

                “None is righteous, no, not one;
                no one understands; no one seeks for God.
                All have turned aside;
                together they have become worthless;
                no one does good, not even one.” Romans 3:10-12


With sin the humankind loves to flirt.
This world is foul when from God departs,
but in its making, with its fights and dirt,
we play, if we are honest, fair parts.

Is God your Lord? Are you a devil’s slave?
No choice, alas, is given in between.
A godless heart is like an open grave,
where flesh is rotting – putrid and unclean.

If there’s no reverence and awe
for the Creator – oh, the wretched race! –
then jealousy and cruel feelings gnaw,
and hearts become so spiteful and base.

When fear of the Lord from hearts is banned,
the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
Not one is righteous, not one can understand,-
they welcome upon them a deadly curse.

Falsehood, corruption, bitterness of speech,
iniquity, duplicity, deceit,
destruction, bias, and the justice breach, -
and this is what ungodly hearts excrete.

Divorced from Truth - from the eternal Truth! -
betraying God, the heart is an abyss,
when, prideful, it opens its sluice
and all its thoughts and judgements are amiss.

The source of every crime and every strife,
of every quarrel and of every war,
the human heart with sinful thoughts is rife
when to the evil opens the door.

If we remove from hearts all the disguise
of decency, what then we would be worth?
Yes, none is pure, righteous, and wise, -
all are corrupt and full of sin from birth.

We stand condemned before the Holy One.
Our own words and deeds, like hell, torment.
Yet, our pardon on the cross is won
for those who cry out and repent.

We all are crooked, vile, and deformed,
and cannot change the evil nature, no! –
unless our hearts, by God Himself transformed,
can His abundant grace in Jesus know.

His love removes iniquity and fear.
We live in darkness when refuse His Light,
The Lord is silent, though He is near,
unless we Him into our hearts invite.
