Why did You come?

Why did You come to this imperfect world and cruel,
where You’ve forsaken all – Your Glory, Heaven’s bliss?
The most precious pearl from all divine jewels,
forsaken by his friends, betrayed by a kiss…

Why did You come to be a preacher, healer, prophet,
and walked across Judea in sandals full of dust?
What did You gain from this and what was earthly profit,
when even Your disciples weren’t worthy of your trust?

Palm branches at Your feet were thrown by the crowd.
Your life reached its zenith, magnificent high noon.
Then – the arrest. Why God such destiny allowed?
Why did You have to leave this earthly realm so soon?

The agony of cross – the pain and rejection
of masses, hailing You before as their King.
The worst of all, the loss of heavenly connection
with Father God, then death, its foul horrid sting…

The darkness veiled it all, and even Father’s tear,-
You could not feel His love, You could not see Him cry.
The nails, piercing hands and feet, and then - the spear,
which stabbed You in the side, Your death to certify.

Why? Why? Oh tell me, why? For sins of humankind?
For those, who abused You and yelled to crucify?
But to the dreadful death You’ve willingly resigned.
You could have dodged this death. Why did You have to die?

Angelic rescue or a cataclysmic power -
alternative provision, was not or there was?…
No miracle reserved to save from such an hour?
You could have walked away with ease by quantum laws.

You could have walked away from suffering and torture,
like You have done before (the Time wasn't ripe),
than to endure beating, and mockery, and scorching,
and spits - the tied hands could not this spitting wipe…

You could have… but You chose obedience, submission.
The Father's will and love were mingled at the cross.
Victorious, You did fulfil the cosmic mission:
Your death, like fire, burned iniquities like dross.

And now, every soul, touched by the love eternal,
Your sacrifice accepting with all repentant heart,
has hope and new life that’s hidden like a kernel -
the Holy Spirit, giving a new fantastic start.
