Parrot who saved the world

In one tropical country not long ago lived a young parrot. Since he was a child he had a dream to travel the world. So when he finished school and was ready for independent life he decided to make his dream come true. He set off on the journey to a country which he learned from school had interesting history and traditions, and friendly people. He flew into a big city with a lot of people and found a place to live. He did not know the language of the people, but he was determined to learn to understand them. So he studied the language by going to school, reading books, and listening to TV until in a few months he could understand and talk to the people of the city. People of the city were very friendly and welcoming to him, so he decided that people in this country were good. He lived in the country for several years learning about the country and the people.

After a while, to fulfill his dream, the parrot flew to another country which he learned from school had interesting history and traditions, and friendly people. He found a big city with a lot of people and settled there. The people in this country spoke a different language that parrot did not understand, but again he was determined to learn to communicate with the people and he studied the language, history and traditions of this country. Just like in the first country, people in the second country were very friendly and welcoming to him, so he decided that people in this country were also good. He lived in this country for several years learning about the country and the people.

By now he knew the languages, histories and traditions of both countries and had friends in both countries. But most of the people in these countries knew only one language: the language of their country and they knew very little about the people of the other country. They did not know how good the people of the other country were. The leaders of the countries did not want their people to think that the other country was good, they wanted people of their country to love only their country. So they spread false stories about how bad the other country and their people were, so that people of their country loved only their country and their leader. The hostility between the two countries grew and the leaders were unwilling to stop it. They were ready to send their armies to fight for the honour of their country.

Watching all this develop, the parrot thought about what he could do to stop the war. He thought if only people of each country found out how good the people of the other country were they would not want to fight them, instead they would want to be friends with them. So he flew to the president of one country and said: I have a message from the president of the other country: please don't start war with the people of that country. The people in this country are good. They have interesting history and traditions. They want to live in peace with other countries. And then he flew to the president of the other country and said the same. The presidents were surprised that the parrot could speak their language, so they decided to talk on the phone, and then have a meeting. They cancelled plans for war, learned about the other country and told their people how good the people in the other country were. From that time leaders and people of these countries were friendly to each other, established economic partnerships, cultural exchanges, and changed this world for the better for their children, because deep inside nobody wants a war no matter what country you are from.
