Restless Dreams

Oh, many a dream last time I got
Some were sweet ones, some were not
Some gave me strength to live one more day
Some took it from me and threw it away
But I remembered the words of my dad
“It’s all just restless dreams in your head”

I dreamed about a lonely blue star
Shining so bright while being so far
I wondered if someone lived out there
And one day saw us in the nightmare
They’d say themselves getting out of their beds
“It’s all just restless dreams in our heads”

I dreamed about a strange misty town
Lain on the road I’d never walk down
Where every citizen was well-masked
Where nobody answered questions I asked
‘Til someone gave me a note where I read:
“It’s all just restless dreams in my head”

I dreamed about a pure paradise
Warmed by the smile of a morning sunrise
There was no hunger, anger or death
And you were free to choose your own path
I wished to stay, yet woke up instead
It’s all just restless dreams in my head

I dreamed about a terrible war
Bigger than anything we’d had before
I quietly stood in front of the grave
Of everyone I hadn’t managed to save
And no one came to me and said:
“It’s all just restless dreams in your head”
