I am a stranger stuck between two shores

I am a stranger stuck between two shores:
Forever alien, one way or another:
What one of countries worships and adores
Is hated and despised by the other.

The weirdest thing is that they are the same:
Imperial, robust, heroic nations,
They trace their roots from prehistoric days
And find the same solutions and inventions.

In their equal powers and prides,
They keep competing, as they strive for glory -
To one another, each of them denies
Objective picture or a balanc'd story.

I love them both; in each I stay alone:
While speaking truth, attack'd, misjudg'd, and worn.
