He spent three weeks in sieged Leningrad
And then escaped to the rear grounds:
Belonging to the Soviet plutocrats
Did save him in the Kuybyshev compounds.
Unlike the common view of his career,
He was a pampered, much-praised artist.
Compare his life with life of Borodin -
The brighter talent lived it short and hardest.
And all the Shostakovich's output,
Next to "Prince Igor" doesn't appear good.
