Owl and Raven
The Lion made a contest
Between the animals to find
The cleverest and wisest.
And all the animals of wood
Were questioned by the riddles.
There were two rivals in the end,
They were the Owl and Raven.
And cried aloud the King of wood:
"Your final task as follows:
You choose yourselves between you two
The cleverest and wisest."
The two wise birds of maiden wood
In unison pronounced:
"I leave in peace this public place
And let you win, my rival."
"According to the laws of wood,"
In anger growled the Lion,
"There should be one: nor two, nor none,
Exactly one! The wisest!"
The wisest birds of maiden wood
In unison pronounced:
"One sees in light, one sees in night.
You seem to see in neither."
