Beware!

When we are told the stories of the West
To journalists we trust and dance attendance -
That poverty is veiled behind the best,
Behind the seeming floodings of abundance

Beware! All what's good is sure good -
In chambers of the rich, but dirty districts
Won't cover up the needy in the soot
Just swarming there like some nasty insects

So, you be careful, foreigners, with us
When doing streets of Moscow in processions -
Don't lose your everlasting trust in Christ,
Don't judge our ways by outward impressions;

For other cities, strangers, save your scorn -
Beneath the gutters - dusty, dark and sooty
You take a try and then you will discern
Its insecure, wild, and stupid beauty.
