Walking on sea

(Илья Кормильцев, «Прогулки по воде», перевод на английский язык)

Once Andrew disciple was walking on ‘coast
And Saviour was walking on waves.
The first of them used to catch gudgeons to roast,
The second caught souls to save.
And Andrew then cried: “Like you I will stride,
Just share your secret with me!”
“Well, Andy, all right”, Saviour replied,
“No secret with walking on sea.

Ch:
Take a look at the cross
On the top of the bluff.
The waiting soldiers are stern.
Go, they’ll pin you with nails.
When you have it enough
Leave the cross and return
To go for a walk, to go for a walk,
To go for a walk on waves.”

“But Master, I see how the helmet horns glance,
A raven has started its flight.
Perhaps I’m a fool so explain all at once
And then you may be crucified.”
Yet Saviour got angry and stamped his left foot
For he even hardly could say:
“You really must be a kind of a fool!”
And Andrew went sadly away.

Ch:
“...Take a look at the cross
On the top of the bluff.
The waiting soldiers are stern.
Go, they’ll pin you with nails.
When you have it enough
Leave the cross and return
To go for a walk, to go for a walk,
To go for a walk on waves...”
