Rivalry - She s So Good Looking...

There’s always discouragement while there’s life.
I think soon I’ll need quite a rest –
I’m tired of struggle and war to the knife,
I don’t find in that any zest.

Love often means rivalry tied up with war
And shows its straight face as hate.
I wish I would somehow foresee it before
I ventured to ask her to date.

She’s so good looking.  She’s always in style –
From hair to her fingertips.
She’d even seem kind, if a fine Cheshire smile
Didn’t flitter on her cherry lips.

Her eyes hide some danger, like amber at night.
I can’t get off them in my sleep.
She looks like a cat, and her might-have-been sight
Could capture one all of a heap.

Her hair’s so velvet.  Her skin is so silk …
She keeps my head going round …
Oh, Angels on high, why we aren’t of that ilk
And doomed to be rivalry bound?
