Do I have anything in common
With the 'Doctor of verse' Dannie Abse
Except his prose, living in London,
Difference in age and in sex?
Not much of a productive poet is Dannie,
And I agree with my colleague-
From six to eight poems per annum-
Is what we doctors should incubate.
From the symbolic and idealistic way-
No question whether it's right or wrong-
The flow of his poetry had swayed
To conversational verse and song.
As to my attempt in the poetic field
In the Language of Byron and Frost,
Does one believe in my pen to yield
The fruits, competing with native crops?
