Home is where your heart belongs

She was in a bright New Year's mood. Beijing met her with a crispy air that was making her cheeks rose red and with tiny snowflakes slowly falling from the clear winter sky that were giving that pleasant chilly feeling on her skin. It was one of the rarest winter days when she could actually feel a real winter because she spent almost seven years in the south working for one of the most fashionable magazines in Hong Kong as an editor. 24/7 of hard work has finally yielded its fruit, she's gotten a good promotion. Business meetings, long days at the office, occasional dates with some self-centered models, crazy parties in the end of the week and wild shopping. This was the life of a pretty successful and rich modern lady who loved strong coffee for breakfast, sushi for lunch and well served sex for dinner.
Checking in for the flight to Manila was about to start. She was longing for great ten days of fun with her "friends" - the best celebration of a New Year in a sunny paradise. While these sweet thoughts were flashing in her mind a low sobbing voice in pure Russian timidly interrupted her dreams.
      - Excuse me, you seem to be Russian, I wonder if you could help me, please, I'm really in despair, - asked "the voice".
      - Yes, you are not mistaken, I'm your country mate. What can I help you? Skinny sad girl in a funny hat was about to cry out loud.
      - I have a flight to Moscow but they refuse to give me the ticket and I don't understand a word in Chinese. I really got to make it for New Year, my mum and sister are waiting for me home, I beg you talk to them!
She perfectly mastered her Chinese during these years abroad so it was not a problem at all to do something good and give a hand to that poor little weirdo.
      - Gimme your passport and wait.
In a few minutes she was already back.
      - It's all fine, they just got a wrong info while booking, see, your passport number-one digit is missing over here. It's fine, I fixed it for you. Not a big deal, here is your boarding pass.
      -  Oh, God! Thank you so much! I don't know how to pay you back. I've been far away for so long, medications and all...you know, they finally let me go meet my family for a while, imagine! Mama sent me the last money for the ticket and if I had missed the plane it could be the last winter when I had chance... Anyway, thank you! I don't have much to give you. Take this! - She handed in a bar of Russian chocolate. - Happy New Year!
And a girl vanished in a thin air as fast as she appeared.
What has she been doing all these years? Making money? Having fun? Building up a successful life? When did she last call her mother? Three months or maybe a half of a year ago? When did she feel a gentle hug? When did she hear good sincere words? When...?
   Phone ringtone cut the silence.
      - Heey, cutie! Ready for some crazy hot nights at the seashore?
      -  I'm going home...
2014 brought us a lot. We fell and rose, we won and lost but we are still in game. New Year is a time to meditate and replay our life on the tape of the heart to remember the best of it. And if you have somebody to lean on this New Year's Eve, somebody who always supports you, somebody who stays with you in joy and in sorrow, somebody who puts your thoughts in peace...go! Celebrate life in a warm family circle even if your only family is a faithful dog at the door rug, share the best food even if it's a small piece of bread with salt. Go and be there for them, because home is where your heart belongs...
