История мчится, как бешеный бык,
кровавые брызги из-под копыт
окрасили бледный российский рассвет,
в сгустившихся тучах не виден просвет.

В окопах, подвалах – тягучее время,
никто не облегчит несносное бремя.
– Какой нынче день? эпоха какая настала?
– Эпоха мертворождённых [1], день Шакала [2].

От горизонта – цунами из песен и плясок,
– Ля-ля-фа [3], – вой «фанеры», кривляние масок.
Мчится бык, под копытами – музыка сфер.
По России опять рыщет, топчется Зверь.

History tears along like a mad bull,
blood splashing from under its hooves
stains the languid Russian dawn.
there’s no break in the clouds to be seen.

Time drags on in the trenches and cellars,
there’s no one to alleviate the unbearable burden.
– What day is it? what’s the epoch?
– The Epoch of the Stillborn [2], the Day of the Jackal [3].

From the horizon there comes a tsunami of singing and dancing,
– La-la-fa [4], – lip-synch wailing, masks making faces.
The bull tears along, music of the spheres from under its hooves,
savaging and prowling about, here’s the Beast in Russia again.
