This particular day

This day I recall as a bright one, my friend,
Though the night tried to pull me back under.
I was dead, ‘cause to live felt like chasing the end,
Like the dawn that surrenders to thunder.

Two thousand hands, bound together so tight,
Lit the sky up with fire and glory.
But ahead lay an ocean, all crimson with fight,
And a chest lost beneath all its fury.

Tried to run, tried to swim, but the blood on my hands
Had me sinking in sorrow and madness.
Don’t you judge a poor soul with tears where he stands,
‘Cause it twists up your mind into sadness.

I was wandering deep in a desperate dream,
Filled with shadows and cruel revelations.
And the folks ‘round me weren’t ready to see
Truth handed down through generations.

I don’t care where the road’s gonna take me today,
Long as I’m one with the land I was given.
But the world keeps on pushing my steps the wrong way,
Like it’s testing the soul I’ve been livin’.

Through the border, unseen, like a whisper at night,
Left behind all the chains that had bound me.
I just wanted to leave them a trail shining bright,
So they’d follow with faith right around me.
