The Book Remains Yet To Be Written
Even though
I do recall how I looked in your eyes:
I looked so I’d remember.
True to yourself, I hoped you wouldn’t compromise.
I loved your conversation,
Acted like I was
Enchanted by your unintended charms.
I let my heart sing a while for you;
The song amused me,
And it did no harm.
I knew how close I was to falling
(In love with you,
And on that line I’d balance still)
I was relieved when, parting
We did not say “I will. Will you? We… will…”
There were no we,
Has never been,
Will never be.
There could be we,
We’ve never been,
We’ll always be
The way we are,
For we don’t need no other
Kind of love.
The book remains yet
To be written.
