Vancouver

Surrounded by mountains, awash in the sea
This country of maples, so simple and free
Soaked by the rain, its air sweet with mirth,
Vancouver, BC, the best place on earth.

Vancouver awakes, Moscow’s making for bed
There Monday is setting, here it’s Sunday instead.
Vancouver is sodden, but rain is quite pretty,
Can’t take this to Russia, so stay in my city.

The smiles are friendly, the faces are open
All cultures and races have something in common,
No matter the skin tone, no matter the faith,
Together we are in this wonderful place.

Vancouver’s at noon - over Arbat the moon
Blooms in its sleep - here busy I keep.
My shining Vancouver - alight in sun’s rays.
Can’t take this to Russia, perhaps I should stay.

Let Nature bestow kindly smiles and kisses
Upon all its children, happy and free.
Their passports from birth give them freedom to live
And their decisions to them I will leave.

Vancouver is starlit, Tverskaya breaks dawn
From Muscovite hustle I’m here withdrawn.
Vancouver is resting, so gorgeous at night.
Can’t take this to Russia so I cancel my flight
