First encounter

So, Elton waited impatiently for the first encounter
And at night in his room he couldn’t help but wonder
What that encounter would bring. If she would say “yes”
Or a bitter “no”. Meanwhile, Jennifer kept on living
Her usual life. For her, this encounter had no meaning,
It was just a meeting with a fellow student in the cafeteria,
For many years she knew no depression or hysteria
Caused by unreciprocated love. So, the day has come
When Elton met someone he thought was the one
Who would bring back the excitement of true love.
He sat quietly in the corner, having the good old capuccino,
When she walked in and asked for a cup of latte
Which he offered to pay for, and asked her to join him.
They talked about school, his home country and art,
He was staring at her, fearing the moment they’d part,
And everything seemed unimportant and mundane
Everything she said was so irrelevant and plain,
Just her presence was a gift for him. And it’s too bad
That during the interesting conversation they had
He couldn’t notice the coldness in her big grey eyes,
The signs of arrogance that many would despise,
And as Rick would say, she treated men like toys
That were meant to amuse her, and without hesitation
She would leave them without pain or frustration.
So, that’s how he fell into her conventional trap,
Though you must give her credit, she didn’t try
To give him meaningless hope, she was just herself,
It was all Elton’s fault. After promising himself
Not to indulge into sorrow or grieve over useless feelings,
Trampling upon his own “indifference” notion,
He once again delved into the world of careless emotion.
