Bud Powell

September 27th – Bud Powell’s birthday.  In 2013 there is 89 years since he was born.


Bud Powell was a genius pianist, one of the all times finest jazz musicians.
He had possessed great sense of rhythm, musicality and innovative vision.
Powell struggled to receive much of the public praise, acclaim, recognition.
Despite rejection, criticism, he had pursued his musical journey or mission.

Bud’s style of playing had resembled, resonated with that of Charlie Parker.
Mirroring on the piano, Bud had transformed, evolved as inventive marker.
Bud improvised, experimented with punctuation, tempos, phrasing, speed.
While not promoted or publicized, he had become a jazz piano playing lead.

Bud had established a mature piano playing style, reaching his artistic height.
He was considered a virtuosic pianist and capable composer in his own right.
Despite his talents, skills, abilities, gifts, unfortunately, Bud was underrated,
While his originality, melodic harmonies were never compromised or faded.

He was absorbed by music that he played, devoting himself a hundred percent.
Each time Bud had performed in nightclubs, it was a huge, entertaining event.
He’s known for his performing intensity, drive, passion and gift of improvisation.
Powell conveyed his love for music with maximum attention and concentration.

September 27th – birthday of Bud Powell, genius known for a unique expression.
He manifested courage, will, exuberance, persistence, optimism and inspiration.
Bud had dramatically influenced the field of jazz, musicians of next generation.
His versatility, technical skill, creative freedom deserved praise, appreciation.
