Chess Made of Time

I've carved the chess of my time,
Guess they are not worth a dime.
Pawns are hours and weeks are
Those natty rooks.

Board is a boundless plain
Measuring thrice is insane:
Pieces do step unguided
When overlooked.

Chorus:

Millions of bright shades -
No black-and-white squares.
Rival's image fades,
Haven't seen him for years!

The wider figures are spread,
The less feeling vain and regret.
Going straight or just straying -
It's all the same.

I knew a man who had fun
Betting his yesterdays on
Chance of reckless tomorrows -
A gambit's lame.

Some trust they've fate to affect,
Declare total freedom to act...
But each's unique field to play on,
They miss that fact.

Chorus:

Millions of bright shades -
No black-and-white squares.
Rival's image fades,
Haven't seen him for years!
