-Beginning-

Man, human being, was created by God (for Life on Earth).
Man, a man, was created for a woman.
This is perhaps his assignment in Life.
Therefore he always searches for her.
Woman was created for Love.
Love is the continuation of Life.
Therefore she will wait to choose her beloved the continuation of Life on Earth.
That is perhaps her main assignment on Earth.
People are social creatures created for each other.
They need have a partner in Life.
They always search for their other half.
That is how it has always been.
And that is how it will always be. Forever.

Chapter one

Late in the evening Mary and her lover got into his convertible. They wanted to take a dip in the lake and then come right back to her place. They have only known each other for a short time, but have fallen in love. After spending that evening in passion Mary told him that this was a good time for her to conceive. She wanted to know his reaction. His reaction was very positive. He felt that they have known each other long enough. He wore his swimming shorts, and he took his credit cards, ID, and driver license with him. So they left. They were only about 10 minutes away from the lake. But unfortunately that evening there was a lot of construction, so they had to take a detour. The construction workers started whistling at the sight of the semi-naked couple in the car. Everyone laughed. At the same time, in a different neighborhood of the city, a drug addict was begging a drug dealer for a fix, with promises to pay back later, but he refused. He then suggested the drug addict rob his parent’s house while they were out of town. The drug addict was starting to suffer from withdrawal and he readily agreed. They got into the car. The dealer sat behind the wheel, and the addict in the passenger seat with a knife in his pocket. When they got onto the road the addict stabbed the dealer with his knife, causing the dealer to lose control of the car. The car spun out and ended up on the wrong side of the road facing the oncoming traffic. Their car hit a causing the truck to hit the car that Mary and her lover were in. Only a few moments earlier, Mary had taken off her seat belt. She had decided to shed her undergarments and leave only a robe. When the cars collided, Mary was thrown out of the car and landed onto some bags with dry leaves, which were gathered at the side of the road. These bags saved her life. She slid off the bags onto a patch of grass near some temporary construction and lost consciousness. At    the same time the truck and her lover’s car flew off the road, completely covered in flames.
The same evening, a fairly drunken gentleman was trying to convince his female friend to sleep with him. They were parked near some temporary construction, to sort things out. A long time ago he was a decent person, but the abuse of alcohol turned him into something very undesirable. She had lost all hope that he would ever change. So she decided to get rid of him by sending him to buy some more booze, claiming that she would wait for him by the bags with dry leaves. She threw a few twenty-dollar bills towards him. He grabbed them and ran off. As soon as he turned the corner she got into her car and left, forever. After some time the man returned with to the spot with a half empty bottle of alcohol. It had gotten much darker. And he could barely make out a female shape on top of the bags with leaves. Thinking that it was his friend he ran to the woman immediately. The woman made a moaning sound, heated up by alcohol; he didn’t understand what was going on, but it was too late. When he finally realized that something was wrong, he moved the piece of cloth that was covering the woman’s face. And saw a pale face of a stranger covered in blood. The shock of what he saw sobered him up. Scrambling up, he ran from the spot. The woman let out another moan. Mary was near death. Across the road firemen were trying to put out the fire which had already killed Mary’s lover, the truck driver and somebody else. Both men were very badly burned, to the point of being unrecognizable. The police helicopter first noticed a bra hanging on a tree, then in the end they found Mary herself. She was taken to the hospital unconscious. Mary didn’t remember anything that happened to her during the accident. Afterwards, when she was putting together a police report she couldn’t explain the empty bottle of alcohol and twenty-dollar bills. Doctors, after some testing concluded that she very likely had intercourse with two men the night of the accident. She couldn’t explain nor deny this. But she decided to keep the baby she may have conceived. Approximately nine months later she gives birth to twin boys. Many years later, there still remains pain of not knowing what happened to her. All she remembers is an unfamiliar face looking at her, but she can’t remember any features. No matter how hard she tries. All she has is her medical record from the hospital, where she states that she had intimacy with her lover a few hours before his death. That’s all she had. But there was a feeling of something happening to her without her consent and this was causing her pain.
Twenty years have passed since the tragedy. Her sons have become men. In some ways they were very similar and in some ways they were something very different. Mary has done everything so they would grow up to be decent men. But her worry about what happened the night they were conceived wouldn’t leave her alone. Some days she loved one more than the other. And then she would torture herself by trying to figure out where their differences came from. She didn’t have any photos of her lover and his relatives didn’t want anything to do with her, so she didn’t have anything to compare them to. All the brothers knew about their father was from what their mother told them. Tim was a couple minutes older than his brother and had outgoing personality. Tom was quieter. They were attending two different universities. These last few years Mary has worked at a library of a prestigious university. Her work environment was very friendly and she liked her co-workers. Little did she know that one day her fate was going to bring her together with the woman, who one day left her drunken friend after sending him to get some booze. One day during their lunch hour, the two women started talking about their lives. At one point Mary told her new friend what she thought had happened to her that night her sons were conceived. As soon as the woman heard this, she starts feeling sick and looses consciousness. The ambulance comes. After the woman come to she tells Mary about being there that night and about sending her friend away for a bottle of booze and giving him the twenty-dollar bills. Realizing that this is her only chance to find out what happened, Mary begs her friend to help her find the man. But there is not so much hope. The woman has not stayed in touch with the man, and all she has heard is that he was admitted to a mental institution, and it is possible that he is no longer alive. Mary is sad to hear this, because this is her last chance to find out the truth, and to end her suffering. She has to find this person dead or alive. Then medical records can tell her who her children really are. Mary and her new friend are looking for any way to find a trace of this man. Finally they find something. One of the places that he was admitted to has his medical records. Now it’s possible to see if he had anything to do with her that night, twenty years ago. Luckily, Tim had just had his blood taken so he can be a student athlete. He doesn’t want him to know anything, but submits his blood for a test. Finally the results are back, and he is definitely not the son of this man. Now she can relax he is her son and her lover’s. It’s a fact. She has always known that, but this confirmation made her feel good. Now she is worried about her second son – Tom. Now she has to figure out a way to setting Tom to take a blood test. He is about to come home for long weekends. Meanwhile she finds out that the drunk is still alive and he is in institution, so Mary takes a few days off work and takes the trip to see him. When she gets there, she is taken to the man. He has no reaction to her. And only when Mary starts telling him her story he wakes up from his daydream and starts staring in her face. She starts to loose patience with him. Do you remember this? Was it you? Tell me, please. Say something, I beg you! What happened between us? Were you alone or was there someone with you? Tell me. What happened? She starts screaming at him. People start looking at them. His hands are shaking. He starts to get down to his knees. He has sweat pouring down his face, his lips shaking. He is trying to say something, but its nonsense. He is on his knees. His lips are touching her shoes. She is trying to understand what he is saying. She doesn’t recognize his face. Now she calmly asks him, what happened between us? But he is just shaking his head. She can’t understand what that means. She starts screaming again. Everything that has built up in her after all these years is starting to come out. She doesn’t care about those around them. Did you have a good time? Did you enjoy my breathless body? Did you get what you wanted? Did you even think that a woman needs to give you consent?  And not when it’s creature that resembles a person who just needs to take care of his need?  Do you hear me? She didn’t even notice that she was shaking him. The nurses come running, and trying to calm her down. He starts having seizures and the nurses take him away. When she calmed down it was starting to get late. She needed to go. The rest she would find out from test results.
