Perfection knows no balance

Perfection knows no balance,
Perfection pushes hard,
It takes tremendous effort,
It drains you from the start.

Before you even know it
Fatigue creeps in and sets
Destroying balance slowly
But surely… Regrets

Don’t come until much later
Meanwhile perfection thrives.
Its victim feels elated
But soon there comes a time

When we remember balance,
We look inside: it’s gone –
Perfection has destroyed it
We start to dwell upon

The damage to our bodies
And minds, and those around,
And slowly we acknowledge:
Search for perfection’s bound

To hurt.  We stop obsessing,
Calm down and let it be,
We grow a little wiser –
We’ve found another key.
